Cougars Split at WCLL Tournament
BEVERLY HILLS, MICHIGAN- The Mount Vernon Women's Lacrosse team (11-3) fell to Grand Valley State University on Saturday, April 15 in the first game of the WCLO quarterfinal tournament. In game two against Western Michigan University, the Mount Vernon Women's Lacrosse team (11-3) won with a score of 22-7.
The Lady Cougars were excited to make their first-ever appearance at the WCLL conference tournament. Game one was against the number one ranked Grand Valley State University, where the Cougars fell with a score of 26-5. Grand Valley came out strong with a dominating offense for the entire game, never holding back. MVNU's defense would be able to control the offense for lengthy amounts of time, but eventually would run out of enough energy to prevent Grand Valley from scoring. When the Cougars were able to control the draw, they were able to score on offense with goals from Sam Poor, Rebekah Kalas, and Zoe Ntia.
In game two, the Lady Cougars would take on Western Michigan University. After being tired from already playing one game before, both teams went into the game with only two subs. MVNU would stay on top the entire game after a goal in the first 15 seconds of the game from senior, Poor. The Cougars would continue to stay on top with many goals being scored by Kalas, Nita, Karlee Whitesell, and Jessie Kyer. The defense was able to make adjustments from game one, only allowing seven goals the entire game and making much cleaner transitions. Mount Vernon would end the day with a 1-1 record.
