MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (14-9, 6-7 CL) fell to Huntington University (13-10, 6-7 CL) at home by a score of 73-83 on Wednesday, February 5.
Huntington opened strong, taking an 8-2 lead 3:38 into the first quarter. MVNU answered the Forester run, tying the game at 10-10 with a layup from Serenitee Johnson at the 5:07 mark. Huntington closed the quarter on a 12-7 run and led the hosts 22-17 after the first 10 minutes.
The Foresters maintained control in the second quarter and took a 36-33 lead into halftime. MVNU opened the third period with a three from Katie Sprang to tie the game and then got another layup from Johnson to take a 38-36 lead. Angela Roshak had a big quarter, scoring 10 points to help MVNU build its lead. After three, MVNU saw itself up 61-57.
Huntington flipped the switch in the fourth quarter, slowly taking control of the game. Stops were hard to come by in the final period for the Lady Cougars. Huntington outscored MVNU 26-12 in the quarter and would win by a final of 83-73.
