
Women’s Basketball Beats Taylor in Dominating Fashion for First League Win
UPLAND, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-3, 1-1) traveled to Taylor University (4-4, 0-2) on Saturday, November 23 for its second Crossroads League game of the season.
In a back-and-forth battle to start the first quarter, the Lady Cougars eventually pulled ahead, thanks to Angela Roshak who scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, all within the first 10 minutes of play. The big start from its center gave MVNU a 21-14 lead heading into the second quarter.
MVNU then built one of its largest leads of the game, pulling ahead 52-33 in the second quarter. Shalen Guilliams went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the period, giving the Lady Cougars a huge boost off the bench.
In the second half, early foul trouble for MVNU allowed Taylor to make some headway, but it wasn't enough to prevent MVNU from maintaining control of the game. Off the bench, Katie Sprang hit a three, followed by a jumper, to extend the lead to 63-45. Serenitee Johnson capped off the third quarter with a layup, helping the Lady Cougars maintain a 74-59 lead.
In the final quarter, the Lady Cougars continued the strong road outing all the way to the final buzzer, securing their first conference win by a final score of 98-75.

MVNU had a shooting percentage of 56.7% and was 8-18 from deep (44%).
MVNU made the most of its opportunities at the free throw line, draining 14-16 attempts (87%).
The Lady Cougars out-rebounded the Trojans 42-27. MVNU also dominated the paint, finishing with 54 points.
MVNU took care of the basketball, finishing with 18 assists to just 11 turnovers.
Everyone on MVNU's bench played and finished with a combined 38 points.
