Lady Cougars Start Homecoming Festivities with Win in Home Opener
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (2-2) hosted its home opener on Friday, November 8, as it took on the Concordia University Cardinals (1-3) in Ariel Arena to kick off Homecoming weekend.
In the first quarter, the Lady Cougars led the Cardinals with a 13-10 score, shooting 37.5%. The second quarter mirrored the first, with MVNU edging out Concordia 12-11. At halftime, the Lady Cougars held a 25-21 advantage in a very low-scoring first half.
At the start of the second half in the third quarter, Teresa Maggio and Serenitee Johnson took control, scoring 19 of MVNU's 25 points in the period. MVNU outpaced Concordia, 25-13, in the third quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 50 to 34. MVNU secured its largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter, pulling ahead 69-49 at the 2:07 mark following a jump shot by Maggio, assisted by Emily Walker. MVNU secured a 69-50 victory in its home opener.

Concordia (MI) shot 26.3% from the field, making (15-57) attempts, and connected on just 10.5% of its three-pointers (2-19).
