Women’s Basketball Closes Season with Close Loss at Grace

WINONA LAKE, Ind. The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (9-19, 3-15) wrapped up its season with a hard-fought loss to the Grace College Lancers (14-14, 9-9) on Saturday, February 24.

MVNU and Grace entered halftime tied at 32 apiece. The second half saw Grace slowly start to stretch and control the lead, but MVNU never let the lead go beyond eight points. MVNU kept fighting and pulled to within two at 59-57 with 59 seconds left. MVNU was unable to come any closer as the hosts made more plays in the final minute to come away with a 64-60 win.

 

Inside the Box Score: 

MVNU shot 37% from the floor but shot a hot 47.1% (8-17) from three.

The Lady Cougars did a great job of defending the three-point line, holding Grace to just 12.5% (1-8) from deep.

19 turnovers hurt MVNU as they led to 18 Grace points on the day.

The Lancers dominated the paint with 40 points compared to MVNU's 22.

Peyton Davis – 16 points (5-9 FG, 3-4 3PT), 4 rebounds, 2 assists. 

Madelyn Lawson – 11 points (4-13 FG, 3-3 FT), 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks. 

Angela Roshak – 10 points, 14 rebounds, 1 block, 1 assist.

Grace Vermilya – 8 points (4-7 FG), 6 rebounds, 1 steal.
