21 Unanswered Points Lead to Comeback Win against Bethel for Lady Cougars

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (9-15, 3-11) defeated Bethel University (6-18, 1-13) by a score of 56-54 on Saturday, February 10. 

The Lady Cougars trailed 48-30 with 3:27 left to play in the third quarter. Behind 50-33 with under two to play in the third, MVNU began a run of 21 straight unanswered points to pull off the impressive comeback victory. MVNU's suffocating defense in the fourth quarter held the Pilots to just four points. The Lady Cougars held Bethel to 20% shooting and forced eight turnovers in the final quarter.

   

Inside the Box Score: 

MVNU shot 38.2% from the floor and just 23.1% from three (3-13).

Bethel Shot 41.5% from the field and 23.1 percent from three as well.

Bethel outrebounded MVNU 38-31 and had 13 offensive board compared to the hosts 11.

MVNU had 16 assists to just eight turnovers. MVNU forced 13 Pilot turnovers and took advantage with 16 points off them.

Madelyn Lawson – Game-high 20 points (8-14 FG, 4-5 FT), 7 rebounds, 1 steal. 

Peyton Davis – 11 points (4-8 FG, 1-1 3PT, 2-3 FT), 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal. 

Grace Vermilya – 8 points (3-10 FG, 2-2 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 steal.

MVNU plays at the University of Saint Francis on Wednesday, February 14. Tipoff is set for 5:00pm.
