Hot Start Not Enough For Lady Cougars at No.2 IWU

MARION, Ind. The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team (7-10, 1-6) fell to No.2 Indiana Wesleyan University (16-1, 7-0) on the road on Saturday, January 13.

MVNU got out to an extremely fast start as it dominated the first quarter against the Wildcats. Noelle Lavery was on fire off the bench to start the game, finishing with 11 points on 4-5 shooting and 3-4 shooting from deep. MVNU finished the period with a 27-11 lead.

The Wildcats were not satisfied and showed why they are the nation's second ranked team in the second quarter. IWU picked up the pressure and stifled the MVNU offense in route to a 27-5 second quarter. MVNU trailed 38-32 at the half. IWU kept up the defensive pressure in the second half and continued to stretch its lead. MVNU fell in the end by a score of 91-73.

 

Inside the Box Score:

MVNU outshot IWU from the field and from three. The Lady Cougars shot 47.3% and 52.6 (10-19) from three, compared to 46.7% and 30.8% (4-13) for the Wildcats.

Turnovers hurt MVNU. The team had 22 turnovers which led to 24 points for the hosts.

MVNU outrebounded IWU 33-31.

Madelyn Lawson – 14 points (5-12 FG, 2-6 3PT), 7 rebounds, 2 blocks.

Angela Roshak – 13 points (5-10 FG, 2-3 3PT), 12 rebounds, 2 assists.

 

What's Next:

MVNU will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana on Wednesday, January 17 for a contest at No.6 Marian University. Tipoff is set for 5:00pm.
