Lady Cougars Finish Day with Split at Grace College

WINONA LAKE, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (13-10, 6-8 CL) traveled to Winona Lake, Indiana for a conference doubleheader at Grace College (5-17, 1-15 CL) on Saturday, March 29.

 

Game 1 Summary:

The Lady Cougar bats were hot in the first game of the day, erupting for 14 runs off 18 hits in the 14-4 win. MVNU set the tone right from the start, scoring six runs in the first inning to put the game away early. Kiera Mayer had a big day for MVNU, finishing 3-3 at the plate with two RBI and a home run. Mayer is now one home run shy of tying the all-time program record. Maddelyn Wine picked up the victory, pitching the full six innings. Wine allowed four hits, four runs (three earned), and had two strikeouts.

 

Game 2 Summary:

MVNU led the Lancers 3-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth but conceded five runs in the inning. Trailing 3-5, MVNU was not able to find the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Avery Miller led MVNU with two hits in the loss. Sydney Hoover batted in two runs for the Lady Cougars and Jesenia Montalvo also had an RBI of her own in the contest.

 

What's Next:

MVNU plays at Spring Arbor University on Tuesday, April 1 at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
