MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (12-9, 5-7 CL) faced off against the No. 15 Indian Wesleyan University Wildcats (19-3, 11-1 CL) in a home Crossroads League match-up on Tuesday, March 25.
Game 1 Summary:
The Wildcats struck first in the top of the first inning, taking advantage of errors by the Lady Cougars to jump out to a 2-0 lead. However, MVNU quickly responded. Kylie Rohr led off with a single to shortstop, followed by Jesenia Montalvo, who singled to right field. With two runners on and no outs, Mollie Pentz stepped up and blasted a three-run homer over the right-field fence, putting the Cougars ahead 3-2.
Skylar Zimmerman then doubled to center field, and Avery Miller scored on a passed ball, extending MVNU's lead to 4-2. But the Wildcats weren't done yet. In the top of the fifth inning, IWU regained the lead, scoring two runs to go ahead 5-4. That lead would hold, and IWU took the game with a final score of 5-4.
Game 2 Summary:
IWU got off to a strong start, jumping to a 5-0 lead through the first two innings. The Wildcats kept the momentum going, adding four more runs in the top of the fourth to extend their lead to 9-0. MVNU responded in the bottom of the fourth with a run from Miller, followed by a double from Kiera Mayer that brought Miller across the plate. However, IWU sealed the win with a final score of 10-1 in five innings.

MVNU softball will be traveling to Winona Lake, Indiana to take on Grace College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 29. The first pitch will be at 1:00 p.m.
