MVNU Softball Defeated by Knights

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (9-6, 2-4 CL) traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana to take on the No.11 Marian University Knights (15-3, 5-1) on Monday, March 17.  

 

Game 1 Summary: 

The Knights took an early lead over the Lady Cougars, scoring one run in the second inning and adding two more in the third to make it 3-0. In the top of the fourth, the Lady Cougars tried to spark a rally when Skylar Zimmerman doubled to left field, followed by Avery Miller advancing Zimmerman to third. Mollie Pentz then hit a ground ball to second base, bringing Zimmerman home for the Lady Cougars' only run. Marian added another run in the bottom of the fifth, securing a 4-1 victory over MVNU. 

 

Game 2 Summary: 

MVNU was held off by the Knights, managing only five hits throughout the game. Marian took the lead in the bottom of the second with a single to right field, then added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal a 4-0 victory. 

 

What's Next: 

The Lady Cougars will return to the Cougar Softball Field on Tuesday, March 18 to play the Cougars of the University of Saint Francis. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m.
