WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University softball team (0-2) opened its 2025 season with a non-conference game against No. 22 Southeastern University (8-1) at Diamond Plex in Winter Haven, Florida on Thursday, February 27.
Game 1 Summary:
MVNU would fall in game one of the doubleheader by a final score of 1-9 in six innings. Kiera Mayer started the bottom of the second with a leadoff double to center field. With one out in the inning, Brooklyn Krum stepped up to the plate, and singled to left field, advancing Mayer to third. Sydney Elliott, in her first at bat of the season, hit a sac-fly to centerfield that scored Mayer for MVNU's lone run of the game. Overall, MVNU collected three hits in the game, which were provided by Mayer, Sophie Durbin, and Krum.
Game 2 Summary:
In the second game, MVNU held the Fire to one run until the fourth inning. SEU began to heat up at the plate, scoring three runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Lady Cougars scored in the fifth inning, starting with Skylar Zimmerman hitting a single up the middle, followed by her stealing second to put herself in scoring position. Ashtynn Roberts then singled to left field, moving Zimmerman to third base. Kylie Rohr came up to the plate and hit a single to left field that scored Zimmerman for MVNU's first run of the game. In the end, MVNU would fall by a final score of 1-8.
