
Men’s Volleyball Wins in Three Sets, Matsumoto Reaches 2,000 Career Assists
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's volleyball team (11-3, 8-2 WHAC) defeated St. Mary of the Woods College (2-13, 0-10 WHAC) in three sets on Saturday afternoon, February 25 at Ariel Arena for their second sweep of the Pomeroys in two days.
The Cougars won the first set by a score of 25-20, set two by a score of 25-17, and completed the sweep with a 25-16 victory in the third set. Jaysen Matsumoto reached the 2,000 career assist milestone on the afternoon.
Inside the Box Score
Spencer Stanley led the Cougars with eight kills on the afternoon. Stanley also had two digs.
Makoa Van Gieson added six kills, a block, and a dig.
Riley Barretto had four kills, 11 digs, and three service aces on the day.
Jonathan Champlin added five kills, two blocks, and two digs.
Jaysen Matsumoto had 22 assists and reached 2,000 career assists on the day.
What's Next
The Cougars are back in action on Friday evening, March 3 as they travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana and Indiana Tech. First serve is scheduled for 7:00pm.
