Men’s Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten with Fourth-Quarter Comeback Against Bison

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The (RV) Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (8-0) returned to CH4 Stadium on Wednesday, March 12, to face the Bethany College Bison (2-5).

Bethany College opened the scoring with a goal at 8:12 in the first quarter, followed by another at 7:33 to take a 2-0 lead. MVNU responded late in the quarter, with Tyler Dickerson scoring off a Gabe Wolf assist at 4:26, followed by an unassisted goal from Zechariah Gee just eight seconds later to tie the game at 2-2. Bethany regained the lead with a goal at 1:39, ending the first quarter up 3-2.

In the second quarter, MVNU quickly evened the score as Rylin Batac netted an unassisted goal at 2:11. Shortly after, Ethan Haney put MVNU ahead 4-3 with a goal assisted by Gabe Wolf at 1:49.

Bethany College took control in the third quarter, scoring a man-up goal at 10:22, followed by another at 8:39. A third goal at 6:52 extended their lead to 6-4. MVNU fought back with an Ethan Haney goal, assisted by Angelo Elia at 5:16, but Bethany responded with two more goals at 4:32 and 1:28, giving them an 8-5 advantage entering the final quarter.

The fourth quarter saw a dominant offensive push from MVNU. Wolf struck first at 10:45, assisted by Dickerson, followed by back-to-back man-up goals from Ryan LaAsmar assisted by Elia at 10:22 and Haney assisted by Wolf at 10:02, tying the game at 8-8. Haney struck again at 9:19, this time assisted by Elia, to give MVNU the lead by a score of 9-8. Wolf extended the lead at 8:36 off a pass from Haney. Bethany narrowed the gap at 5:41 with a goal, making it 10-9. However, MVNU sealed the victory with Haney scoring three more times at 2:53 assisted by Elia, 1:23 man-up, assisted by Dickerson, and 1:13 assisted by Gee leading MVNU to a 13-9 comeback win.

Vaughan Hawkins guarded the net for MVNU, recording nine saves in the game. At the faceoff X, Zechariah Gee dominated, winning 20 of 23 attempts, providing MVNU with crucial offensive possessions.

 

What's Next:

Men's Lacrosse will continue its homestand with another game at CH4 on Saturday, March 15, against the (RV) Taylor University Trojans. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
