MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's lacrosse team (1-0) began its 2025 season on Saturday, February 1, at CH4 Stadium, taking on the Hiram College Terriers. MVNU earned an 11-3 victory over Hiram College, supported by a strong offensive effort.
Key leaders for the Cougars in today's game included Dillon Hittle and Gabe Wolf, who made strong returns from injuries last season. Together, they contributed 6 goals and 3 assists. Ethan Haney a sophomore transfer for the Cougars had a standout performance with 2 goals and 2 assists. Freshman goalie Vaughan Hawkins earned his first career start, recording 9 saves on 11 shots on goal. Tyler Dickerson, Ryan LaAsmar, Kaden Tinner, Alex Wolfe, Edward Burcham also played crucial roles for the offense.
On the defensive side, Bryce Morningstar forced 3 turnovers and scooped up 6 ground balls. Freshman Rylin Batac caused 3 turnovers and collected 3 ground balls, while Preston Barnes added 2 caused turnovers and grabbed 3 ground balls.
MVNU dominated at the faceoff X, winning 16 of 17 faceoffs. The freshman duo of Zechariah Gee (13-14) and Colton McKee (3-3) played a key role, contributing to numerous offensive opportunities for the team.
