
MVNU Claws Past Spring Arbor for Two Wins
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (21-10, 10-8 CL) began its series with Spring Arbor University (16-14, 8-10 CL) at the Cougar Baseball Field on Thursday, March 27.
Game 1 Summary:
Chase Storr was dominant for MVNU in his start against Spring Arbor in the 10-2 game to open the series. Storr went eight innings deep, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven batters. Along with great pitching, MVNU had the offense going as well. Trailing 0-1, MVNU had a four-run third inning to secure the lead for good. Rider Minnick drove in two with a single to left, followed by a two-run homer by Brady Lester.
After grabbing another run in the fifth, MVNU put the game away completely in the bottom of the seventh. Alejandro Delgado got the big inning started with a bases-clearing double to left. Kaid Carpenter then hit an RBI triple. Carpenter later came home after scoring on a wild pitch, putting MVNU up 10-1. Spring Arbor tacked on a run in the ninth, but the Cougars of MVNU prevailed with a 10-2 win in the end.
Game 2 Summary:
MVNU trailed 0-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Brennen Nichols stepped to the plate with Brandon Cokeley on base and smashed the game-tying home run. Carter LaPata gave MVNU the lead later in the inning, scoring off an error from third base. Holding a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh, Maxwell Donawa shut the door on any Spring Arbor comeback, pitching a perfect 1-2-3 inning to cement the victory for MVNU. Jared Hurlburt got the start and pitched six strong innings. Hurlburt allowed seven hits, two runs (one earned), and had four strikeouts.

MVNU completes its series with Spring Arbor on Saturday, March 29 at the Cougar Baseball Field. Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
