No. 13 Trojans too Much for Cougars

UPLAND, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (19-9, 7-7) played at No. 13 Taylor University (23-4, 14-0) on Saturday, March 21.

 

Game 1 Summary:

Taylor started the game strong, scoring four runs in the first inning of play. MVNU got its first run of the game in the top of the third thanks to a solo shot from Brennen Nichols. Brady Lester then hit a solo homer of his own in the top of the fourth, making the score 4-2, Taylor. A seven run bottom of the fourth broke the game open for the Trojans, putting them up 11-2. The runs continued to cross home plate for Taylor as it went on to win by a final score of 15-2.

 

Game 2 Summary:

Taylor stuck first in game two with a run scored on a fielder's choice in the top or the first inning. The Trojans scored four runs in the third, two in the fourth, and two more in the bottom of the sixth in their 9-2 win. MVNU got both of its runs in the top of the sixth after Grant Wheeler hit a two-run blast, which was his sixth home run of the season.

 

What's Next:

Baseball will conclude its series at No. 13 Taylor on Saturday, March 22. The first game of the doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
