Baseball Closes Season with Loss to Marian
UPLAND, Ind. — No.5 Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team played No.6 Marian University in the Crossroads League Baseball Tournament on Friday, May 3.
The winner of the game would stay alive and live to see another day. Marian struck first and put two on the board in the third inning. The Knights added two more in the fourth to double their advantage. Brady Lester hit a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to get MVNU on the board. Marian did not let its foot off the gas, adding two runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh to take control of the game.
MVNU did not go down without a fight, scoring four runs in the bottom eighth to make the score 6-10. Johnny Nixon brought home a run with a double to left, Kaid Carpenter scored two with his single to centerfield, and Blaine Keener scored Carpenter with his RBI single down the left-field line. Despite the effort to cut into the lead, MVNU fell in the elimination matchup by a final of 6-10.
