Baseball Drops Two at IWU

MARION, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (15-17, 11-11) resumed its series at Indiana Wesleyan University (25-9, 19-5) on Saturday, April 6.

MVNU lost the first game of the day in extra innings to the Wildcats by a final score of 3-4. MVNU trailed 1-3 heading into the ninth, but heroics from Hunter Billman tied the game. Billman hit a two-run single to right field to keep the Cougars alive. Unfortunately, a run for IWU in the tenth would lead to the hosts winning in walk-off fashion. Cole Schreck went eight innings deep in his start, allowing six hits and just three earned runs. Schreck had seven strikeouts.

Game two saw MVNU take a 3-1 lead on IWU after a three-run third inning. Zackary Hoop batted in two and Hogan Heck hit a sac fly to bring home another. IWU bounced back with a run in the fourth and then hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth to take the lead for good. MVNU fell by a final of 3-4 in game two. Johnny Nixon got the start and gave up four hits and two earned runs in four innings pitched. Nixon had one strikeout.
