Cougars Fall Twice to Wildcats in Marion

MARION, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (15-15, 11-9) traveled to Indiana Wesleyan University (23-9, 17-5) for the start of its four-game weekend series on Friday, April 5.

MVNU had difficulty getting the offense going in game one and would fall by a final of 0-3. The Cougars had four hits in the game and were led by Hogan Heck who had two of them. Casey Kalman and Kaid Carpenter each had a hit too. IWU got its runs in the first, third, and sixth innings. Logan Fox allowed six hits and just three runs in his start. Fox had six strikeouts.

In game two, MVNU took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth thanks to an RBI single for Joe Poremsky that scored Brady Lester. The Wildcats would respond by tying the game with an RBI single down the right-field line and then would walk it off with another RBI single to left-field. Despite the loss, Poremsky hit his sixth homer of the season in the fourth, and Rider Minnick hit his second home run of the season in the fifth inning. Maxwell Donawa highlighted the pitching efforts as he pitched three scoreless innings and allowed just two hits in his relief appearance. The junior struck out three Wildcats.

MVNU wraps up the four-game series at IWU with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6. First pitch is set for 12:00pm.
