UPLAND, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (14-12, 10-6) completed its four-game series at No.21 Taylor University (21-9, 14-2) at Winterholter Field on Saturday, March 23.
In game one, MVNU took an early lead in the top of the first inning, scoring first to go up 1-0. Brady Lester delivered an RBI single, driving in Rider Minnick for the run. Taylor responded in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 1-1. MVNU reclaimed the lead in the top of the third inning, as Casey Kalman crossed home plate on a wild pitch, making the score 2-1 in favor of MVNU. Taylor countered with a strong offensive surge in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs to take a 5-2 lead. The hosts added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to pad their lead. In the top of the fifth, MVNU's Kaid Carpenter sparked a rally with a two-run RBI single, cutting Taylor's lead to two runs. However, Taylor held its ground and secured the victory by a final of 7-4.
MVNU's offense was unable to get anything going in game two as it accumulated four hits in the 0-4 loss. Taylor scored a run in the first and two more in the second to take control early. Hogan Heck, Minnick, Joe Poremsky, and Kalman each had a hit for MVNU in game two.
What's Next:
MVNU baseball will be back home at the Cougar Baseball Field against Marian University on Thursday, March 28. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00pm.
