Cougars Fall Twice to Trojans

UPLAND, Ind. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (14-10,10-4) began its weekend series at No. 21 Taylor University (19-9, 12-2) at Winterholter Field on Friday, March 22.

In the opening game, Taylor took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, going ahead 2-0. In the seventh inning, they added another run with a sacrifice fly, making it 3-0. Taylor scored once more in the eighth inning, extending its lead to 4-0 against MVNU. However, the Cougars managed to score in the top of the ninth inning off a Brady Lester grounder that brought home Rider Minnick. Logan Fox pitched seven innings, allowing nine hits and three runs (two earned) in the 1-4 loss.

In the second game of the day, Taylor secured a low-scoring victory, scoring the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Jarin Bertke pitched six innings, giving up four hits and two runs (zero earned). The Cougars managed a total of five hits in the ballgame.

 

What's Next:

MVNU wraps up its series at No.21 Taylor on Saturday, March 23 in Upland, Indiana. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12:00pm.
