Gallion Steps Down as Head Track & Field Coach
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – After five memorable years, Ellis Gallion is stepping down as the head coach of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's and women's track & field programs.
Gallion was only the second head coach since the programs were restarted in 2015 by former head coach, and current Director of Athletics Chip Wilson. Gallion saw success as he oversaw multiple conference champions, national qualifiers, and All-Americans.
In February, Gallion led the men's track and field team to a No.16 ranking in the USTFCCCA National Rating Index. The ranking is the highest mark in program history. Gallion's men's team also placed second overall at the Crossroads League Indoor Championships and third overall at the Crossroads League Outdoor Championships. Both finishes were program bests.
"Ellis has been a tremendous leader for the MVNU track program, and he has been a great asset to our Athletic Department and campus community," said Wilson. "He has taken this program to a new level with his recruitment and focus on competitive excellence. As a former member of our track program and now leading the program for the last five years, Ellis has a special connection with our track program and love for the university. His investment in our students will be greatly missed, and we are thankful for his time at MVNU."
MVNU will begin a national search for its next track & field head coach immediately.
