MVNU Gets Road Split in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (16-20, 11-17 CL) spilt its road doubleheader at Marian University (15-23, 9-17 CL) on Tuesday, April 18.

MVNU took game one at Marian thanks to an elite pitching performance for freshman Reese Willoughby. Willoughby allowed just one hit and had six strikeouts through eight innings of work in the 4-0 win. Joe Poremsky and Blaine Keener each had two RBI to give the young pitcher all the run support that he needed.

In game two, MVNU fell by a final of 4-7. A huge first inning saw MVNU score all four of its runs. Poremsky hit an RBI, Cooper Crawford hit a single that drove in two, and Ty Williams doubled and drove in Keener to put MVNU up 4-0. Despite the fast start, MVNU could not sustain the lead as it gave up seven unanswered runs during the remainder of the ballgame.
