RV Taylor Sweeps Cougars

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio. – The Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team (9-11, 6-8 CL) lost both games of its doubleheader with receiving votes Taylor University (21-9, 14-2 CL) on Friday afternoon, March 24 at Cougar Field.

In game one, Zackary Hoop led the way offensively as the sophomore went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Despite MVNU outhitting the Trojans eight to seven, Taylor outlasted the Cougars behind homeruns from TJ Bass and Kade Vander Molen. Maxwell Donawa took the loss on the hill for the Cougars. The sophomore righty went 6.0 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks. He struck out two in the outing. Though the Cougars looked to be mounting a comeback late, Taylor held on to win 6-3.

In the second game, Taylor rode stellar pitching from starter Gabel Pentecost, who allowed just two runs and struck out six in 6.0 innings of work, to win 3-2. The Cougars again had six hits to the Trojans' five, but could not get runs across. Josh Pettit took the loss on the mound. He went 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks. Pettit struck out six.

 

What's Next

The Cougars are back in action on Monday, March 27 as they host the Grace College Lancers for a doubleheader. Game one is set to kick off at 1:00pm.
